Every civilisation apart from our own has offered rites of passage to prepare its young men to take on adult responsibilities. As the African saying puts it: “If you do not initiate your young men into the tribe, they will come back and burn down the village just to feel the heat.”
Journeyman UK offers community mentoring and contemporary rites of passage for 13-17-year-old young men. You are warmly invited to their Edinburgh Open Evening, where you can find out a bit more about what Journeyman is all about, and how it helps communities to support their boys, with full support and engagement from women.
You will be able to hear the experiences of others involved with the charity in many different ways. There will be a screening of a short film that highlights the power and impact of Journeyman's Rites of Passage on young men and boys in the UK, and a chance to ask questions and get involved as we look at ongoing possibilities for Scotland.
Drinks and snacks will be provided (but also feel free to bring your own!) You are welcome to join for any length of time and entry is by donation. This event comes on the eve of Journeyman’s 2-day Inner Mentor Training for men in Edinburgh on 1st - 2nd June (Facebook event page here).
Journeyman UK is a registered company number 07519889 and registered charity in England No.1149581 dedicated to supporting boys aged 13 to 17 to discover their potential in adolescence using community mentorship. www.journeymanuk.org
